Synopsis: Michel Ronay, a Marseille taxi driver, has his country villa at Grambois, a haven of peace where he spends the month of August with his family. Unfortunately, his mistress', Eleanor the shopkeeper's wife and Sophia, the naked artist, make demands on him as he tries to relax with his wife Monique. Things get worse when Michel brings to the villa two Australian hitch hikers who camp in the garden and then accidentally set fire to the surrounding land. After the fire is put out, Michel decides that he needs a break away from Grambois and leaving his family he goes sailing with his friend Rene and his wife.Unfortunately this leads him into difficulty when he is seen by Claude Salvator, a notorious gangster, in a harbour restaurant. Michel decides to get back to Marseille and he contacts Gerrard, the Gendarme, and tells him about Salvator. Michel is then involved in a plan to catch Salvator which goes badly wrong and ends with Gerrard accidentally shooting himself in Michel's taxi whilst chasing Salvator. Fortunately the injury is slight and Gerrard recovers after a short period while Michel returns to Grambois having had a memorable August holiday.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard
By: J.K. ROWLING, J.K. ROWLING (ILLUS)
